Elizabethton Twins hosting "Christmas in July" on behalf of Salvation Army

   The Elizabethton Twins are hosting "Christmas in July" on July 3rd on behalf of the local unit of the Salvation Army serving Elizabethton and Carter County. Everyone is invited to the 7 p.m. game as the Twins play the Johnson City Cardinals at the Elizabethton ballpark.
   "This event recognizes the Salvation Army's work and need for year-round support, not just at Christmas," said Salvation Army Board Chairman John McKinney. "Admission to the game is free thanks to our corporate sponsors, but donations of winter coats, scarves or gloves and canned food items will be appreciated."
   The Salvation Army provides emergency support for community disasters to aid for the homeless and disadvantaged.
   "Need truly knows no season, and the Army is always there to help," McKinney said. "Come on out to the ballpark July 3rd and let us say 'thanks' for your support."
   In an average year, one local Salvation Army office provides:
   * 54 children refuge from homelessness
   * 12,252 nights of sleep for those without a home
   * feeds over 56,069 meals to the hungry in our midst
   * offers counseling, crisis assessment, prevention and referrals to 2,167 individuals in need
   * gives information, referrals and assistance to 10,864 people in our community requiring emergency social services
   * monthly provides food, clothing, and emergency utility assistance
   * distributes more than 67,000 articles of clothing
   * provides Christmas toys and food to 2,400 families
