E-Twins drop Astros

   MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Backed behind solid hitting from Kyle Phillips and Jason Pospishill, the Elizabethton Twins rallied to toppled the Martinsville Astros 10-1 on Tuesday night at Hooker Field.
   Phillips went 4-for-6 with two doubles, knocking in five runs, while Pospishill was 4-for-5 with three ribbies.
   Angel Garcia took the victory on the mound for the Twins, going five innings with five strikeouts and only allowing three hits.
   Ronnie Martinez was the losing pitcher for the Astros, fiving up nine hits in four innings, with four earned runs and two unearned runs.

   Dennis Medina and the Elizabethton Twin bullpen were simply solid Monday night.
   Medina tossed five innings, leading the Twins to a 6-0 win over the Martinsville Astros at Hooker Field.
   Medina only allowed three hits before Paul Mutch, Ryan Hader and Levale Speiner pitched one-hit ball through four innings of relief.
   The Twins didn't allow the Astros past second base the entire contest.
   Denard Span opened things up with a single for Elizabethton, scoring on a Kyle Phillips groundout to give the Twins a 1-0 lead. Ryan Spataro made his way around the bases in the second inning due to wild throws, scoring on a sacrificed fly.
   The Twins swept up the game in the fifth inning with a Span single, followed by a Phillips RBI hit. Dusty Goman stepped up for Elizabethton, smacking a two-run homer over left centerfield to take a 5-0 lead.
   The Twins scored again late in the game.
   Notes: SportsTicker has named Elizabethton's Sam Taylor (San Leandro, Cal.), batter of the week in the Appalachian League. Taylor, a second-year infielder, achieved a .450 batting average (9-for-20) in five games. He also totaled seven runs and five RBIs.
