ETSU's Tiller, Bass among best in 1-AA

from staff reports

JOHNSON CITY -- East Tennessee State seniors Tony Tiller (Lithonia, Ga.) and Aaron Bass (Clinton, Tenn.) both were rated highly in Division I-AA preseason position rankings released recently by The Sports Network.
Tiller, ranked second among cornerbacks, has become a shutdown corner for the Bucs over the last two seasons. In 2002, he was a coaches All-Southern Conference first-team selection after registering 41 tackles, one interception and eight pass break-ups despite being avoided by opposing quarterbacks on most passing downs.
After averaging 42.9 yards a kick last season, Bass was named as the fourth-best punter in the nation by TSN. He was a second-team coaches All-SoCon pick in 2002, after having 20 kicks of 50-yards or more and dropping 13 punts inside the 20. His punting average ranked him third in the conference and ninth in the nation.
ETSU opens its 2003 campaign on August 28 at 7 p.m. as they travel to Eastern Michigan. The Bucs home opener is on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. against Concord College.
