Wet weather sends pee-wee  baseball into feverish pitch

   Action is at a feverish pitch at the Elizabethton Boys and Girls Club pitching-machine field as the league has been held hostage by the overly wet summer season. Following is a breakdown of this weekend's action from Elizabethton High School's softball field.
   Girls Action
   Twins 15
   Braves 10
   Jessica Brumit and Mindy Taylor scored three runs each for the Twins with a home run from Taylor and four RBIs. Courtney Potter added two more runs for the Twins including a home run and 3 RBIs while teammates Breanna Blevins and Katie collected two scores in a contributing effort.
   Logan Campbell had an outstanding night in a losing cause for the Braves as she slammed two home runs and collected seven RBIs. Haley Lewis added three scores while Megan Bare chipped in with two runs each.
   Cubs 10
   Twins 9
   In a game resumed from an earlier date, the Cubs raced out to a 5-2 lead and had to come from behind in the final frame as Chelsey Weddle slammed the game-winning home run to cap a four-run, come-from-behind victory for the Cubs. Kelsey Frazier and Megan Ocano added a solid offensive effort for the victors with Sarah Weddle, Emily Harris, and Camrie Warren adding solid defensive play.
   Jessica Brumit, Mindy Taylor, and Courtney Potter paced the offensive attack for the Twins with Kela Cox, Kelsey McNeil, and Taylor Campbell contributing great defense in the losing effort.
   Cubs 14
   Reds 10
   The Reds scored six runs in the top of the first, but the Cubs were determined to take the win by responding with six of its own in the bottom of the inning and went on for the win. Emily Harris, Emily Carr, and Erin Kiser smacked three hits each with Harris collecting two home runs and Kiser a solo homer and triple to pace the Cubs.
   Sarah Weddle, Chelsey Weddle, Kelsey Frazier, and Taylor Grindstaff all rapped out two hits each in the mega-hit contest. Whitney Carden banged out three hits to lead the Reds. Other notable Red performers were Kelly Scott (HR), Goldie Ludrosky, Autumn Reece, Lacy White, and Megan Hazelwood recording two hits apiece in the nailbiting contest.
   Orioles 10
   Braves 8
   Laura Nave, Jessica Burleson, and Samantha Hardin had three base knocks in the win for the Orioles. Cheyenne Blevins and Lacie Blevins pitched in with two hits to aid the cause.
   Lindsey Smith had a nice game in the losing effort as the Brave collected three hits to show the way. Megan Bare, Haley Lewis, and Molly Crabtree backed up Smith with nice efforts as each girl recorded two hits for the Braves.
   Twins 14
   Angels 2
   Jessica Brumit and Mindy Taylor reached base four times for the twins scoring six of the 14 Twin runs. Amy Berry and Kelsey McNeil added three hits while Courtney Potter and Emily had two hits apiece in the Twin victory.
   Sophie Bremer, Molly Mains, and Emily showed the way for Angels with two base hits each. Lacey Reed, Morgan Depew, Victoria Nanney, Haley Phillips, and Bethany Collins added one hit each in the Angels scoring column.
   Boys Action
   Twins 16
   Rockies 1
   Colton Oaks and Ben Goulds collected three hits with teammates Blake Terry, Justin Reagan, Luke Goulds, Emory Buckner, and Andrew White powering the offensive onslaught with two base knocks apiece in the win for the Twins.
   Bradley Whitson had two hits and scored the only run for the Rockies in the lopsided defeat. Caleb Banks and Cody Malone added the only other hits for the Rockies with one each.
   Orioles 15
   Cardinals 13
   In a game that even was too exciting for the bookkeeper, the Orioles held off the determined Cardinals by a slim two-run margin. The official book did not record anything but the final score.
   Cardinals 17
   Rockies 0
   The Cardinals were offensive juggernauts as they whitewashed the Rockies in convincing style. Andrew Bowers and Zachary Peters totaled four hits each in the game to pace the Cardinals.
   Joseph Smithdale added a three hit performance while Jeb Davis, Bryan Mullins, Ryan Pinkerman, and Kaleb Walters all contributed with two hits in the win. McKenly Berry paced the Rockies with two hits and teammates Brandon Taylor, Cody Malone, Daylann Blevins, and Johnathan Keene came through with one hit in the tough game.
   Yankees 8
   DBacks 7
   In a barn-burner, the Yankees came through in the clutch to hold off the Yankees. Josh Harrison, Cameron Blair, and Jacob McCracken pounded out two hits in leading the Yankees to victory.
   Christopher Fenner, Jonathon Holt, Cory Richardson, Ethan Jones, Josh Hubbard, Travis Lowe, William Shaw, Dustin Phillips, and Terrance Turner had one hit each in the win for the Yankees. Alex Baughmann and Jesse Honeycutt had three hits for the DBacks while teammates Nathan LaPorte and Dawson Fair contributed with two hits in the heartbreaking defeat.
   ** Note: The Braves and Rangers were washed out as an afternoon rain took its toll with the Braves maintaining a 5-0 lead after two complete. The game will be resumed later. Also, the Twins and Orioles were a complete wash as a later evening thunderstorm moved through the area just before the beginning of the contest.
