Citizens Bank moves on to CCAL championship

from staff reports

A spot in the Carter County American Little League championship was on the line, and Citizens Bank and Cline-Holder were ready to give it their best on Monday night at Jim Ensor Field.
It would take extra innings to settle this losers bracket final as Citizens captured a 6-5, seven-inning affair.
The Bankers, the tourney's No. 3 seed, will face off against top-seeded T&C Lawn Care in tonight's 6 o'clock championship game. If Citizens wins, a second game will follow.
It appeared that the Bankers would seize Monday night's game by the throat as they tallied three quick runs in the first inning, fueled by Jeremy Hall's double and singles from Brandon Cole and Adam Colbaugh.
When Matthew Gouge tripled and scored in the third, Citizens was definitely in control with a 4-0 advantage.
However, Cline-Holder offered retaliation in the bottom of the inning. Three hits -- Thomas Roddy's triple, Cody Marley's double and a Greg Sams single -- combined with an error and three walks enabled the underdog to knot the score at 4-all.
The game remained tied until the seventh, in which Citizens tallied on a pair of runs on the strength of two walks and an error.
Another Roddy triple brought in Kendall Wash, who led off with a walk, for Cline-Holder in the home half of the seventh, but the game-tying run just wasn't in the cards.
Hall (two doubles) and Colbaugh both batted 2-for-2 in top offensive roles for the winners. Cole went 1-for-1 with a pair of runs and two walks, and J.D. Scalf and Jake Hodge contributed a base hit apiece.
Going 3-for-4, Sams showed the way on the Cline-Holder side. Marley and Roddy both finished at 2-for-4.
