Twins clips CCM; BET cruises past Grindstaff

from staff reports

Jump-started by Benjamin McKinney's first-inning homer, the Elizabethton Twins went on to capture a tough 4-3 victory over Carter County Motors Tuesday night as the Elizabethton National Little League nears the end of regular-season play.
McKinney cleared the left-field fence for a 1-0 Twins lead, which Elizabethton extended to 4-0 with a three-run second.
Carter County Motors batted back with two runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth, but couldn't quite make up the difference.
Zack Montgomery reeled in the win on the hill as Carter County Motors managed just two hits, while Stacey Sheffield proved to be a hard-luck loser as the Twins only totaled three hits.
Skylar Dugger, 1-for-1, was tops for Elizabethton, with Roy Edwards and McKinney each batting 1-for-2.
Batting 1-for-2 apiece for Motors was Adrian Hopson and Cody "The Rock" Hyder.
   BET Welding 9
   Grindstaff Motors 1
Josh Sorah showed some of his best stuff on Tuesday, harvesting 14 strikeouts and tossing a nifty one-hitter for BET.
Grindstaff grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in this game, but the Welders answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. After scoring two more in the second, BET used a five-run third to garner more than enough breathing room.
Casey Crapps, going 2-for-3, was the main man at the plate for BET. Bucky Harris followed at 1-for-1 and Sorah at 1-for-2.
Jerry Berkley had the only Grindstaff hit.
