Blevins shines in CCGM rout

   Tee Blevins pitched a one-hitter leading Carter County General Machine to a 13-0 win over Unicoi County No. 2 on Friday.
   Blevins went the distance on the mound, striking out 13 and walking none, while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
   Caleb Trivett was 3-for-4 and Cody Montgomery was 2-for-3 leading the offensive charge for Carter County. Kelly Grindstaff added a home run for CCGM, who remained a perfect 7-0 on the season.
   Justin Bennett got the lone hit for Unicoi County.

   East Tennessee State's women's golf team will play host to the Lady Bucs Golf Classic at the Ridges on Monday. The event, sponsored by Greystoke Chevrolet and Carter County Bank, is a four-person scramble format and will begin at noon with a check-in and lunch followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Proceeds from the tournament will support the women's golf team at ETSU.

   Michael Giroud of East Tennessee State's baseball team was named an honorable mention freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
   Giroud broke into the Bucs starting lineup at third base at the beginning of the season and appeared in 48 of ETSU's season 57 games this season. He wound up fourth on the team with his .318 batting average, driving in 39 runs and scoring 24 times. He belted a pair of home runs and was the only player on the team to walk (17) more times than he struck out (16).


   ETSU head volleyball coach announced Friday the signing of Nicole Ryan beginning in the 2002 season. Ryan was a multi-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, swimming and water polo. She was honored as team most valuable player in each of the last two seasons. Ryan was the Etlwanda, Calif. 2002 Scholar Athlete and Athlete of the Year.
