EHS to hand athletic reins to Alderson

from staff reports

With the departure of Jim Presnell as Cyclone athletic Director, effective June 30, Elizabethton High School principal Edwin Alexander has picked Larry Alderson as Presnell's replacement.
Alexander said in a prepared statement that Alderson's duties will be: "To become the athletic director at EHS, and to co-ordinate all EHS sports programs.
"Among Alderson's other duty objectives will be to make certain that the sports program benefits the students both athletically and academically.
"To support all Elizabethton High School coaches and its individual programs. To have a close working relationship with all important support groups, especially the APO and its members, Boys & Girls Club, the city Park and Recreation Department and all interested parents who support our athletic programs."
And last but not least, "To continue the pride that is shown by the students and the community for our sports programs."
Alderson has spent 32 years as a teacher and has been involved in sports since his youth, playing football, baseball, basketball and track for four years.
Alderson was head coach of the Cyclone football squad for two seasons ('74 and '75) and was head track coach for two seasons. Alderson spent four years (1970-73) as the Cyclones' defensive backs coach.
