David's Trophies remained tied for first place
in Jr. Babe Ruth play with an 11-1 win over Citizens Bank
before the rains came in the middle of the second contest
Monday night.
The plaque attack jumped on top in the first
inning thanks to a triple near the center field wall from
Scott Burleson that scored Chris Pierce who had walked. The
bankers tied the score when Corey Blevins singled and later
scored on a base hit by Justin Covington.
The plaque attack used a six-run second inning
to put the game out of reach. A double by Michael Carpenter
and a single by Sam Adams produced RBIs for David's Trophies.
Coach Charlie Bradford's Giants added two runs
in the fourth when Aaron Bradford roped an RBI single followed
by another solid one-bagger from Carpenter to up the lead
at 10-1.
The game ended in the seventh after Brandon Medina
reached on an error and later scored on a passed ball.
Matt Rasnick got the win on a nifty four-hitter.
Burleson, Carpenter and Adams led the hitting, going 2 for
3 each while Bradford chipped in with a 1-for-1 performance.
Blevins led the Braves going 2-for-2 while Justin
Covington and Crystal Covington had the only other hits for
the Braves.
In the second contest the Elizabethton Herb &
Metal Reds led the Tetrick Marlins 8-5 before the rains came
at the start of the fifth inning. The game will be continued
at 5 p.m. on Thursday before the start of the first contest.
