Baughman Manufacturing D-Backs blank STAR Reds

from staff reports

In an Elizabethton/Carter County Boys & Girls Club game between Baughman Manufacturing Diamondbacks and Elizabethton STAR Reds, it looked as if the "Jugs Pitching Machine" was going to pitch a no-hitter on both teams as the game entered the top of the third inning.
From there, however, the Diamondbacks cut loose for an 11-0 win.
The D-backs started to break the ice as Chris Scalf led off the bottom of the third with a single. Josh Saults then followed with an inside-the-park home run to make the score 2-0.
Eric Carter and Daniel Adams then followed with singles with Jesse Honeycutt coming to the plate. Honeycutt ripped a double to score Carter and Adams to put the D-backs out front 4-0.
The D-backs held the Reds in check, playing good defense in the bottom of the third to maintain their lead.
In the top of the fourth, Andy Bowers got things started again for the D-backs with a single, as did Nathan Laporte, scoring Bowers.
Drew Holtsclaw and Scalf singled to score Laporte. Saults then came to the plate and tagged a double to score Holtsclaw and Scalf. Jeff Kennedy followed with a single to score Saults and make the score 9-0 to end the inning.
In the top of sixth, Holtsclaw singled before Scalf came to the plate to hit an inside-the-park home run to put the final touches on the game.
The D-backs played good defense to hold the Reds to no hits. The Reds gave a good effort against the D-backs for a good game. The D-backs play against the Braves at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday for the nightcap game.
