Two games highlighted Jr. Babe Ruth action Thursday
night, with Expert Express and Moose earning victories over
Tetrick's and Elizabethton Herb & Metal, respectively.
Expert Express Diamondbacks 12
Tetrick's Marlins 6
The truckers of coach John Papantoniou jumped
out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back
en route to a 12-6 win over the undertakers.
After several walks in the first inning, Jeff
Wilson crushed a triple for the big hit in the inning. Tetrick's
managed four more in the second, with Wendell Loving and Nick
Papantoniou contributing doubles while Nick McNeal and Travis
Bishop added singles.
Bishop and Papantoniou split five innings between
them to lead the truckers to their six-run win.
Loving and McNeal led the D-Backs in hitting,
each going 2-for-3. Loving had a double and triple while McNeal
added a triple to the cause. Papantoniou, Bishop and Wilson
chipped in with a hit apiece.
Brandon Cole had a good game for the Marlins,
batting 2-for-3. Justin Conway and Jeremy Hall had the remaining
hits.
Wilson got the win while D.J. Puckett took the
loss.
Moose Yankees 10
Elizabethton Herb & Metal 9
The Moose was on the loose early in the contest
but had to rally after the Elizabethton Herb & Metal Reds
threatened to toss them in the recycle bin and remain undefeated.
Moose used a leadoff single from Larry Creed
along with a double by Jeff Peters to get things rolling in
the first inning. The big blow of the inning came when Brooks
Price sent a fastball some 340 feet over the left-field fence
for a home run.
Dalton Williams ripped a single to plate Brandon
Whitehead, who had walked after the dinger. Moose led 5-0
after one inning.
The Reds used a seven-run fourth inning to take
the lead over the Bullwinkles. Two walks to Jacque Romain
and Roy Edwards were followed by a triple from David Caldwell,
cutting the lead to 6-4. Singles by Dylan Shallcross and Daniel
Simerly helped stake the recyclemen to a 9-6 lead.
Moose rallied for four in the fourth behind a
double from Peters and two singles from Whitehead and Williams.
Terry Campbell got the win in relief while C.J.
Campbell took the loss.
No games are on tap for Friday night due to the
Elizabethton graduation, but will resume at 3 p.m. on Saturday
with three games slated that evening.
