Super season comes to end for Lady Buffs

   ATHENS--Defeated by Mid-Continent (Ky.) College by the score of 4-2 on Thursday at the NAIA Region XII Tournament, Milligan's Lady Buffs came to the end of their 2004 season.
   Milligan finished third in the Region behind Mid-Continent and the eventual winner of the tournament, Brescia (Ky.) University. Brescia defeated Mid-Continent 6-3 in the championship game to earn the bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
   With the loss, Milligan finished out with a 43-16 record. The 43 wins tie the school record. The Lady Buffs also finished second in the regular season in the Appalachian Athletic Conference along with winning the AAC Tournament.
   For Milligan in the loss, junior Traci Harrison pitched the first four innings while junior Brandy Waddle pitched the last three innings. Waddle picked up the losing decision to fall to a 19-8 record on the season.
   At the plate for the Lady Buffs, both junior Brooke Davis and sophomore Rebecca Gilley went 1-for-3 with an RBI each.
   Earning All-Region XII honors for Milligan were Waddle and Harrison, along with senior catcher Shelby Banion.
   "I am proud of my team, it has been a great year," said Milligan Head Coach Wes Holly. "We were two games away from reaching the National Tournament and we only lose two seniors (Banion and Ellen Stoots). With the returning players we have coming back, we have our goals set to win the AAC along with winning the Region XII tournament to reach the National Tournament in 2005.
