from staff reports

Seventy-two players turned out to play in the annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament at Elizabethton Golf Course this past Thursday. The four-man team of Gerald Montgomery, Greg Hauk, Benson Lai and Charlie G'Fellers made their presence felt the best.
Scoring a 57, Montgomery, Hauk, Lai and G'Fellers emerged as the first-place team, with Chris Guy, Mark Cathell, Duncan Street and Todd Bevins putting up a 60 to take second-place honors.
Dallas Williams, Bob McClain, Woody Lyons and Chuck Madgett combined their skills for a 61, which was good enough to tie David McVeigh, Ron Peltier, Dave Marshall and Mark Schaff for third.
Rounding out the top five was the team of Brent Dugger, Richard Hodge, Pam Stoots and Andrew McKeehan with a 62.
McVeigh, on No. 3, and Chris Shields, on No. 10, were the closest-to-the-hole winners, while Greg Dugger reigned supreme in the putting contest.
A total of 18 teams participated in the event, which was backed by 46 sponsors.
