JOHNSON CITY -- For the T.A. Dugger Lady Junior Cyclones, their softball season spilled over with success. They simply would have preferred a more pleasant ending.
In the Middle 7 Conference tournament championship, held Thursday night at Metro-Kiwanis Park, TAD dropped a 4-1 decision to Unicoi County in a battle of the league's elite.
Unicoi County tallied the game's first two runs, scoring twice in the third. The Lady Jr. Cyclones answered with a run by Jasmine Treadway in the bottom of the fourth, then the Lady Patriots closed out the scoring with a pair of fifth-inning runs.
Leah Henson, Janey Robinson and Kelli Culler had one hit apiece for TAD, with Robinson adding a sacrifice.
Summer Smith was the hard-luck losing pitcher as the Lady Jr. Cyclones, the regular-season co-champions, finished with an impressive 17-2 record.
