Lady Buffs qualify for AAC final

   BRISTOL -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs softball team is in the 2004 AAC Championship game after a 1-0 victory over Virginia Intermont Thursday evening at White Top Creek Athletic Facilities.
   With the win, Milligan improves to 40-14 on the season.
   Milligan scored in the fifth inning sophomore left fielder Rebecca Gilley led the inning of with a double, and with two outs All-AAC utility player Sarah Smith hit a one hopper off the fence in left center field to allow Gilley to score.
   For Milligan, junior All-AAC pitcher and AAC Player of the Year Brandy Waddle pitched a complete game shutout, only allowing three hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Celia Henline picked up the loss for VI as she went six innings allowing one run on seven hits.
   At the plate for the Lady Buffs, junior Brooke Davis went 2-for-2 with a walk. Freshman Amanda Verner also had two hits as she was 2-for-3 in the game. The other hits came from Smith, Gilley and Shelby Banion.
   Milligan will play at 2 p.m. today in the AAC Championship game. The Lady Buffs' opponent will be the winner of the noon game as Virginia Intermont will play either UVA-Wise or Brevard (N.C.).
