BRISTOL -- Thunder Valley became Rainy Valley Sunday with wet weather forcing the delay of the elimination rounds of the MAC Tools Thunder Valley Nationals to today.
The NHRA made a final decision to abort plans to run on Sunday at 5:15 p.m. after a late afternoon shower. Officials had tried hard to get the action in on Sunday, but rain persisted throughout the morning and much of the afternoon.
While Pro Stock driver Kurt Johnson would have like to have completed the event on Sunday, he took a fair approach to the news of the cancellation.
"If you think about it, we have been fortunate with all the rain we've endured in the four years this NHRA event has been held at Bristol Dragway," said the AC-Delco Chevy driver. "I remember coming here with my father during the IHRA days when the race was a total washout. No matter what happens, I'm not complaining. Whenever they call us to the lanes, we'll be ready to race."
Gates will open at 9 a.m., with final eliminations slated to begin at 10 a.m. Tickets good for Sunday's rain-postponed racing will be honored on Monday.
