District 1-A tournaments: Softball, remainder of baseball cancelled

from staff reports

Inclement weather has forced the cancellation of the District 1-A softball tournament, as well as the remainder of the District 1-A baseball tournament.
Unaka had the traditional honor of hosting the softball tournament, but the event, which had originally been scheduled to wrap up today, never got rolling as rain invaded the region at the first of the week.
After reverting to the final regular-season standings, Unaka's Lady Rangers advance to next week's regional tournament as a No. 2 seed, while University High enters the regional as a No. 1 seed.
Both teams begin regional play on Monday, May 12, with Unaka likely headed for Jellico. The Lady Jr. Bucs will be at home, where they will probably meet up with Powell Valley.
The 1-A baseball event, which was being held at Devils Diamond in Erwin, managed to squeeze in one game -- University High defeated Cloudland 1-0 -- earlier this week.
Like softball, the regional berths go to the top two teams from the regular season.
Unaka will be a top seed and UH a No. 2. The Rangers will host their regional opener while the Junior Bucs take to the road on Monday, May 12.
   Unaka's game will start at 4:30 p.m.
