Davis stars for Express, C.C. Bank slips by VFA

from staff reports

Cash Express was glad it had Jacob Davis on its side on Tuesday night.
Davis slammed a fifth-inning home run and tossed a one-hitter to lead Express to a tough 1-0 win over undefeated Carter County Motors in the early game at T.J. Burleson Field.
Davis' homer cleared the center-field fence.
Cash spoiled a nice pitching effort by Carter County Motors' Jake Hodge, as the Express totaled five hits for the contest.
Michael Coone's 1-for-1 outing was tops for the winners, who got 1-for-2 games from Justin Bailey, Michael Hutchins, Davis and Zach Miller.
The only hit for Motors came from Chris Pierce (1-for-2). Stacy Sheffield turned an outstanding double play in the first inning.
Both teams played good defense, with Motors committing just one error and Express none.
   Carter County Bank 2
   Valley Forge Auction 0
Good defensive play proved to be contagious as both the Bankers and the Auctioneers made no errors in the nightcap.
CCB tallied the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning, then used the good pitching of Derek Mann, who got the win, to help finish the shutout.
Chase Depew, batting 2-for-2, showed the way for the Bankers. Isiah Osborne and Cody Forbes followed at 1-for-2.
Leading VFA was John Robinson at 2-for-2. Garrett Dykes and Jordan Hodges contributed 1-for-2 efforts.
   Monday's Game

   Tri-Cities Nissan 3
Drew Chambers struck out 11 batters while giving up just one hit in four innings of work, lifting Burgie to the tight-fisted victory.
Chambers, who registered the win, was joined by Jordan Meredith, Zack Miller and Aaron Vaughn with 1-for-2 showings at the plate.
Logan Bowling had the only hit for Nissan.
The game lasted five innings, with the sixth being rained out.
