Lady Warriors split twin-bill with Falcons

from staff reports

A little bit of bitter and a little bit of sweet accompanied a season-ending doubleheader for the Happy Valley Lady Warriors on Tuesday.
The sweet came in the form of a 5-0 Lady Warrior win over Volunteer in Game 1. The bitter occurred when the Lady Falcons came back to take Game 2 by a 1-0 score.
The first game saw Alicia Dick (9-5) pitch a one-hit gem. Dick got all the support she would need when Happy Valley tallied a run in the first, and the Lady Warriors added plenty of insurance by plating four runs in the fourth.
Kate Powell drove home two runs for Happy Valley, which got a triple from Kortney Goulds and doubles from Mandy Byrd and Jessie Blevins.
Happy Valley was held to two hits in the second game, spoiling a nice pitching performance from Goulds (11-5), who allowed just four hits and struck out six.
Volunteer tallied the game's only run in the fourth.
Blevins and Terra Whaley accounted for the Lady Warrior hits.
Happy Valley (11-3, 23-10) entertains Sullivan North in the opening round of the District 1-AA tournament this Friday. Time for the first pitch is tentatively set for 5 p.m.
