Lady Cyclones upend Central

from staff reports

The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones were riding kind of low as they entered their final tuneup for the postseason, but their spirits were back on the rise as they defeated Sullivan Central 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
'Betsy broke a three-game losing streak with the win, and will head into Friday's District 1-AA opener with Volunteer (5 p.m. at EHS) on a positive note.
"Having lost three in a row, this was a big game for them -- to come back out there and play well, they way they know how to play," said Lady Cyclone assistant coach Melissa McClain. "To bounce back was really good for them."
Trailing 1-0, the Lady Cyclones made their big move in the third inning, pushing across three runs. Elizabethton added single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Kristie Keys hurled a four-hitter for 'Betsy to record the win.
Katie Hubbard, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Sarah Smith, 1-for-3 for a double, an RBI, one run and a stolen base, anchored EHS offensively.
Sutton went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs for the Lady Cougars, who received a solid pitching effort from Haney.
