Junior Bucs headed for state tourney from staff reportsROCKWOOD -- University High failed to get a single hit in its Class A sectional baseball game Saturday. Ben Shew and the Junior Bucs wouldn't need one. With Shew tossing a two-hit shutout, UH found a way to get runs on the board for a 3-0 victory over Rockwood and a berth in the state tournament. Shew struck out nine batters on the day and walked just one. Rockwood mounted just one offensive threat all day, putting a man on second with no outs in the fifth, but Shew sandwiched two strikeouts around a routine ground-out to kill the Tiger hopes. The Junior Bucs got all their runs in the third. UH set the table with Alex Graves being hit by a pitch, Tyler Blevins reaching on an error, then Josh Fields also being hit by a pitch. From there, Drew Harrell worked himself up an RBI walk, followed by a Daniel Smith sacrifice fly to center. Shew followed with a sacrifice fly of his own -- to right field -- to finish the scoring. UH begins state tournament play in Chattanooga on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
