from staff reports
Joe Brown, a 6-0 senior guard from Sullivan Central
High School, has signed a letter of intent to attend Milligan
College and play basketball for the Buffs.
As a senior, Brown averaged 13.5 points and 4
assists per game playing both point and 2-guard for coach
Tony Vaughn.
Brown was named All-Watauga Conference, first
team All-Northeast Tennessee, All-District 1 Tournament MVP,
Region 1 All-Tournament, and honorable mention All-State.
Brown helped lead the Cougars to the District
1-AA Title, a runner-up Region 1-AA finish, and a trip to
the substate.
"Joe has the ability to put it on the floor and
create off the drive as well as the ability to shoot the three,"
said Milligan head coach Tony Wallingford. "We liked his versatility
as a 1 and a 2. He played for good coaches (Vaughn and Wallace)
in a winning program. He is a late bloomer and we believe
he has outstanding potential."
Not only a basketball standout, Brown excels
in the classroom as well. He is an Academic Top Ten with a
4.0 GPA and a member of the math, science and foreign language
honor societies.
Brown is a member of the Beta Club and the vice-president
of the Sullivan Central Student Council.
Brown plans a major in business at Milligan.
He is the son of Joe and Libby Brown of Blountville.
