Milligan inks former East basketball star

from staff reports

Adam Hughes, a former basketball standout at Sullivan East High School, has signed a letter of intent to attend Milligan College and play basketball for the Buffs.
The 6-2 Hughes, a 2002 graduate from East, originally signed with Walters State Community College. He spent this past year completing academic requirements at Northeast State in Blountville.
Hughes is the second all-time leading scorer at East High School with 1,471 career points. Hughes' award list is extensive, including twice being named to the honorable mention all-state team.
In addition, he was named to the All-Big 9 and All-Big 7 Teams, All-District, All-Region and All-Northeast Tennessee Teams.
As a senior, he led the conference in scoring, averaging over 21 points per game after finishing as conference scoring runner-up as a junior. Other honors include All-Arby's Classic and All-Hardee's Classic twice. Twice Hughes won the Big 9 Slam Dunk Contest.
Milligan coach Tony Wallingford is glad to have Hughes join the Buffs.
"Adam will have three years of eligibility remaining," he said. "He knows how to score. He knows how to play. He played for a good coach at East and he is a fierce competitor. We're happy to give Adam this opportunity and feel confident he will have a good career here."
