Lady Buffs, Wesleyan split pair

   ATHENS -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs softball team split an Appalachian Athletic Conference double header at Tennessee Wesleyan Friday afternoon.
   Tennessee Wesleyan won the first game 2-1 but the Lady Buffs won game two by the score of 3-1. With the split, Milligan moves to 37-12 overall and 22-4 in the AAC.
   In the first game, the Lady Buffs took the early lead as freshman third baseman Megan Aldridge scored on a fielder's choice hit into by sophomore leftfielder Rebecca Gilley.
   Tennessee Wesleyan's only two runs came from a two run home run from Rachelle Hyder.
   Suffering the loss for Milligan was junior Brandy Waddle as she pitched six innings, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
   At the plate for the Lady Buffs, Brooke Davis and Megan Aldridge had the only two hits for Milligan.
   In the second game, Milligan took a two-run lead in the third inning with back to back RBI singles from freshman right fielder Leah Fritts and senior catcher Shelby Banion to score freshman centerfielder Amanda Verner and freshman short stop Sarah Smith, respectively.
   The Lady Buffs added one more run in the sixth inning as Banion scored on a single from pitcher Waddle.
   Picking up the win for the Lady Buffs, junior Traci Harrison pitched 3 1/3 innings without allowing a run or a hit with two strikeouts. Waddle picked up the save in relief as she went 3 2/3 innings, yielding a single unearned run on two hits.
   At the plate, Leah Fritts, Banion and Waddle each had an RBI single.
   Next for Milligan will be a road trip to conclude the 2004 AAC season at the University of Virginia at Wise Thursday afternoon. The doubleheader starts at 2 p.m.
