Ferry tops in 800 at Tech

   BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Milligan College freshman Josh Ferry overtook Virginia Tech's Duncan Vick in the home stretch to win the men's 800 meters at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday.
   Ferry's time was 1:53.93 to Vick's 1:54.35.
   Former Science Hill standout Jair Collie finished fifth in the 800 meters in a new personal best time of 1:59.41.
   Also competing well on the men's side were Jakeith Hairston in the long jump (first) and Trevor Donovan in the 1500 meters (sixth).
   For the Lady Buffs, sophomore Morgan Hyatt finished third in the discus throw in a new school record 39.60 meters, and freshmen Allison Langrel and Amber Peace ran lifetime bests in the 800 meters and 1500 meters, respectively.
   Both the men's and women's teams will be in action next weekend at UT's Gatorade Classic.
   In other action at Virginia Tech, Catherine Berry (Nike/Great Britain) won the women's 1500 meters (4:23.99) by over 20 seconds.
