Lady Warriors drill Volunteer in league affair

from staff reports

CHURCH HILL -- Happy Valley's offensive machine showed no signs of slowing down on Thursday, with the Lady Warriors cranking out a 17-6 Watauga Conference win over Volunteer.
The game was tied at 4 at the end of three innings, but Happy Valley scored at least three runs in three of the final four frames.
The Lady Warriors totaled 12 hits on the day, with Jessica Blevins, Kortney Goulds, Kate Powell and Mandy Byrd banging out two apiece.
Blevins accounted for the biggest offensive highlight, ripping a three-run home run. She and Alicia Dick each chalked up four RBIs in the contest.
Dick got the start on the mound for Happy Valley. Goulds came on in relief during the middle of the third inning and went the rest of the way, improving to 7-4.
"It was a good game," said Lady Warrior coach Karri Killen, whose team improved to 6-1 and 13-8. "Volunteer has a good hitting team. The hits were about the same. We got our hits when we had people on base. That was probably the biggest difference."
The Lady Falcons had 11 hits, but also six errors.
