Chiefs edge Highlanders

from staff reports

ROGERSVILLE -- A wild pitch in the seventh inning gave the Cherokee Chiefs what they needed to beat Cloudland on Wednesday.
With the game tied at eight apiece, the class triple-A Chiefs took advantage and won 9-8 on their home field.
"They hit the ball hard," said Cloudland coach Robbie Turbyfill. "We played well against a 3-A school. We all feel good about the game. Maybe by the time the tournaments get here, we'll be in good shape."
Mark Byrd led the 'Landers with his four-for-four outing at the plate with two steals and an RBI. David Holden and Clint Steiner also contributed two hits for the 'Landers.
Aaron Stocton, Jason Winters and Dane Christman also had a hit for the 'Landers. Christman almost gave Cloudland an extra run when he struck out, but made it to third on an error.
