Milligan captures AAC golf crown

   LONDON, Ky. -- The Milligan College men's golf team captured its first-ever Appalachian Athletic Conference Golf Championship played at Crooked Creek Country Club.
   Milligan won the two-day, 9-team, 54-hole event, edging Tennessee-Wesleyan College by four strokes. The Buffs trailed Wesleyan after the first 36 holes by 1 shot but rallied in the final 18 holes to take the championship. Brevard finished in third place 14 shots behind the Buffaloes.
   Milligan placed three golfers on the All-AAC squad: Freshman Matt Ongie (Science Hill), tie for sixth; sophomore Aaron Jesse (Daniel Boone), tie for sixth, and freshman Matt Barefoot (Dobyns-Bennett), tie for 10th.
   Milligan head coach Tony Wallingford was named the AAC Coach-of-the Year. Union College's Eric Wyrick was medalist with a score of 234.
   The AAC match was also played in conjunction with the NAIA Region XII Championship. The Buffs finished second in the Region behind Brescia (Ky.) University. Brescia's Ty Simons was regional medalist with a 54-hole total of 231.
