Lady Jr. Warriors sweep Hampton, split with GC

from staff reports

The Happy Valley Lady Jr. Warriors took a double header sweep from the Hampton Lady Jr. Bulldogs Monday at Happy Valley.
In the first game, Haylee Carver was the winning pitcher. Hannah Banks had a triple and Jerrisa Rice went two for two at the plate in leading the Happy Valley team to a 10-4 victory.
Seventh-grade sensation Ashley May, in only her second-ever performance, pitched a no hitter in leading the Lady Warriors to victory in game two. May walked one batter in the 12-0 shutout. Nichole Hardin had two hits in three at-bats to lead the Warriors offense.
HVMS head coach Jessica Keith stated, "We hit the ball well, especially in the second game. Ashley, if she's willing to continue working hard, well, she's going to be great. She was continually in the strike zone, but kept them off-stride.
The Lady Warriors split a double header with Gate City on Saturday. The Lady Warriors lost game one 4-3, before their bats took over to wallop Gate City 9-2 in the second game.
Haylee Carver lost the hard-fought 4-3 first game, while Ashley May won in her first start 9-2.
Coach Keith was pleased with her team's play overall.
"We did't start off very well when we got to Gate City," she said. "We got the bats going a little better in the second game, so overall I'm satisfied. We simply have to be ready to play when we get off the bus, but we're going to get better."
