Buffs and Lady Buffs netters defeat Cavs

   MONTREAT, N.C. -- Milligan College men's tennis team swept Montreat College on Saturday afternoon at the Cavaliers' home, with a match score 9-0.
   In doubles, Tom Jones and Ryan Reynolds won 8-3 against Nate Kraak and Sam Ivey. Pat Mitchell and Adam Campbell were also successful, taking an 8-3 win over Josh Riser and Chris Carter. Joe Dyer and Adam Deiwert won their match by default.
   Mitchell was also successful in singles, shutting down Riser winning 6-0, 6-0. Campbell followed with 6-2, 6-2 wins over Carter, along with Reynolds 6-3, 6-3 win against Ivey. Jones played a long and aggressive match against opponent Kraak, finally overtaking the Cav 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
   Joe Dyer prevailed in his match against Aaron Mullenix 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Jon Toler won by default.
   "I was a little nervous about this match because I thought Montreat would come ready to play. We also have a couple of injuries that worried me," Milligan coach Rich Aubrey commented after the match. "All in all, we played well. It was a good, convincing win for us."
   Milligan will next face conference rival King College today in Bristol. Match time is set for 2 p.m.


   MONTREAT, N.C. -- The women's tennis team overtook the Lady Cavaliers Saturday, winning 9-0 at Montreat College.
   The Lady Buffs now improve to 6-4 overall, and 6-2 in the AAC.
   In number one doubles Cassie Lomison and Cheri Lomison won 8-4 against Christy Tolliver and Nicole Scheidt. In number two doubles, Lyndsey Bowie and Hannah Potter were successful over Kara Harding and Meghan Cushman, winning 8-1.
   Amy Vincent and Krissi Denton were triumphant in number three doubles, prevailing 8-2 against Alyson Sinclair and Katie Stammler.
   Cassie Lomison swept Harding in number one singles 6-0, 6-0, while sister Cheri Lomison also won in number four singles, 6-3, 6-2 against Scheidt.
   Amber Campbell pulled out a close match winning number two singles 6-4, 7-6 (4), over Tolliver.
   Bowie won in number three singles 6-1, 6-3 against Cushman. Vincent put up an aggressive fight against Sinclair, ending the match victorious with the 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win.
   Lauren Douty also pulled out a win for the Lady Buffs, prevailing over Stammler 6-4, 6-0.
   The Lady Buffs will next travel to Bristol to take on conference rival King College today at 2 p.m.
