Blountville's Smith snares second Sportsman title

   BRISTOL -- Blountville bracket racer Tim Smith scored his second win in as many weeks during Saturday's third points race of the season in Thunder Valley.
   Smith, who pilots a 1977 Fury, drove past Tim Woods of Bristol, Tenn., in the finals. He came off the line with a .115 reaction time with an elapsed time of 13.653 at 93.81 mph. Woods and his 1967 Valiant had a .047 green light with an elapsed time of 12.737 at 104.55 mph.
   In other racing, Johnson City's Lacey Durbin scored her first-ever victory in Junior Dragster Division 1 action. Durbin, who notched her first trip to the finals last weekend, turned it up a notch in besting Avery Denton of Bristol, Tenn. She blew off the line in .076 with an 11.812 E.T. at 53.77 mph while Denton had a .099 reaction time with a 10.947 E.T. at 58.11 mph.
   Bobby McKinney of Bakersville, N.C., took the Super Pro win over Ronnie McGaha of Mt. Carmel, Tenn. McKinney cut a .012 light with a 5.082 elapsed time at 131.70 while McGaha had a .049 light with a 6.488 E.T. at 104.65 mph. It was McKinney's first win of the season.
   Mack McMillan of Clinchco, Va., returned to his winning ways, clinching a Pro win over Tim Griffith of Cedar Bluff, Va., with a .013 reaction time with an 8.272 elapsed time at 81.91 mph. Griffith came off the line in .035 with a 8.849 elapsed time at 74.90 mph.
   Two-time defending Pro Bike champ Mike Gill notched his first win of the season by speeding past Kingsport's Joe Perry in the final round. Gill, of Elizabethton, clocked a .035 light with a 5.854 elapsed time at 111.47 mph while Perry had a .072 light with a 10.477 E.T. at 64.99 mph.
   Tyler Smith of Knoxville, Tenn., was the Junior Dragster Division 2 winner, blasting down the strip at an impressive 81.44 mph after cutting a .099 light with an 8.061 elapsed time. The runner-up was Lauren Freer of Lewisville, N.C., who had a .104 light with an 8.095 E.T. at 74.27 mph.
   The Bristol Dragway bracket club will take a break until May 8 as the B&M Racer's Appreciation Series invades Bristol Dragway for its annual April 16-18 event.
