Lady Buffs sink Union  in AAC play

   BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- The Milligan College Lady Buffs softball team swept Union (Ky.) College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon by the scores of 5-2 in eight innings and 7-1.
   With the wins, Milligan improves to 30-10 overall and 16-2 in the AAC.
   In the first game, the Lady Buffs needed an extra inning to clinch the victory over Union. In the eighth inning, and the score tied at 2, Milligan started with Brooke Davis on second base with the International Rule in effect.
   After sophomore Rebecca Gilley was hit by a pitch to reach first, sophomore pinch-hitter Courtney Ruth drove Davis and Gilley in with a single to score for the winning runs. Ruth scored on a Brandy Waddle triple for the fifth run scored by the Lady Buffs.
   The winning pitcher for Milligan was junior Brandy Waddle as she came to pitch the last two innings of without allowing a run or hit. Waddle came in for Traci Harrison as she went six innings allowing two runs on four hits.
   At the plate for the Lady Buffs, Ruth went 1-for-1 with the two RBIs.
   In the second game, the winning pitcher was Waddle as she went six innings, giving up one run on two hits with six strikeouts. At the plate, Courtney Ruth went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Shelby Banion batted 2-for-3.
   Next for the Lady Buffs will be a key home match up against AAC rival Tennessee Wesleyan today at Anglin Field. The doubleheader starts at 2 p.m.
