King salvages final game of series with Buffs

   The Milligan College baseball team fell to King College (Tenn.) by the score of 8-7 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon at Anglin Field.
   With the loss, Milligan drops to 20-16 overall and 9-5 in the AAC while King moves to 21-20 overall and 9-8 in the conference season.
   King scored early on the Buffaloes. In the first inning, Andrew Belcher drove Danny Holloway home with a single.
   In the second inning, the Tornadoes added four more runs. Patrick Mcklveen scored on a bases loaded walk issued to Aaron Porter.
   After a pitching change to freshman Stephen Jarrett, Belcher drove home Danny McCreedy and Daniel Ott. The final run of the inning, Porter scored on a double by David Roberts.
   King scored a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. The run in the fifth inning came from a lead off home run by Belcher. In the sixth, McCreedy scored on a single from Danny Holloway.
   Milligan answered with a run in the sixth inning. Sophomore centerfielder Will Little led the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by second baseman Daniel Ott. Little scored on junior third baseman Dustin Price's single.
   The Tornadoes struck again for another run in the seventh inning. With one out, Chris Martin reached first with a walk and stole second base. He scored on a single from John Patterson.
   After Mackenzie and Calli Davis sung "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in the seventh inning stretch, Milligan climbed back into the game by sending 12 Buffaloes to the plate, six of which scored.
   Freshman left fielder Ben Huff started the inning with a single followed by another single by junior catcher Nathan Chandler. Both runners advanced a base on a throwing error by Ott.
   Huff scored as senior first baseman Brian Miller reached first as Ott made another error at second base. Senior shortstop Brad Hitch walked to load the bases for Little and he drove home Chandler's pinch runner, Cody Whitlock with a single.
   Miller and Hitch scored on a double by junior second baseman Nathan Meade. Sophomore right fielder David Rusaw grounded out at first base to advance the runners. Price was hit by a pitch from Dirk Kleinmann. Little and Meade came around to score as Huff drove them in with his second single of the inning.
   The winning pitcher was Dirk Kleinmann, as he went 7 innings allowing seven runs on six hits. Nick Hensley picked up a save for the Tornadoes pitching two innings with two hits. For Milligan, Todd Speas picked up the loss, as he pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing five runs on one hit with five walks.
   At the plate for the Buffaloes, freshman Ben Huff went 3-for-4, scored a run, walked and had two RBIs. Sophomore Will Little was 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored an a RBI.
   For King, Andrew Belcher went 3-4 with four RBIs and a home run.
   Next for Milligan will be an AAC doubleheader at Bryan (Tenn.) College starting at 1:00 PM. The games were rescheduled from earlier in the season because of rain. Milligan will host Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) College Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM.
