Vines hurls 'Betsy to win over JC
from staff reports
MOUNAIN CITY--The Elizabethton Cyclones went
to Johnson County on Tuesday aiming for an all important third-place
position in Watauga Conference play.
Behind the solid pitching from Joseph Vines,
the Orange & Black took the Longhorns to the distance
with a 3-1 victory in Mountain City.
"I thought we did what we had to do," said Cyclone
coach Steve McKinney. "We put ourselves in place to be third
in the conference.
"We did the things it takes to win and I'm proud
of the kids, and Joseph Vines. I told him last night at Unicoi
County that he would have to do it for us, and he responded
well."
The Cyclones racked up seven total hits on the
outing. B.J. Miller and Nat Treadway both went 2-for-3, while
Vines picked up his fifth win of the season.
