Buccaneers sign Summey
from staff reports
JOHNSON CITY -- East Tennessee State head baseball
coach Tony Skole announced Monday that Sullivan North High
School pitcher Brandon Summey has signed a national letter
of intent to join the Buccaneer baseball program for the 2004
season.
Summey has lettered in all four of his seasons
as a Golden Raider for head coach Steve Dixon. He was named
to the district All-Tournament Team, to the All-Northeast
Tennessee Team and was a TBCA Worth Showcase selection in
2002.
Summey also earned four letters for football
in high school, and was an all-conference honorable mention
selection in 2003.
Summey pitched 77 innings in 2002, striking out
99 batters and only walking 10 while yielding a 2.04 ERA.
"We are very excited to have Brandon coming to
play at ETSU," said Skole. "We are excited about his abilities
and potential as a player and as a student. What attracted
us to Brandon is that he gets the ball over the plate and
he can throw all of his pitches for strikes. He is a great
competitor and he will have an immediate impact on our program
next season."
