College of Charleston sweeps past Lady Bucs

   Mt. PLEASANT, S.C. -- Combining for 25 hits in the Saturday afternoon twin-bill against East Tennessee State, the College of Charleston Lady Cougars swept past the Lady Bucs by 6-1 and 12-4 scores at Patriots Point Field.
   The Cougars (33-5, 10-1 SoCon) took the opener behind a complete game effort from Rachel Stern (18-1) who allowed just four hits and one unearned run. Stern struck out two and walked none.
   The losses drop ETSU to 16-18 overall (3-7 SoCon) as Tiffany McVay pitched 5.1 innings but fell to 9-6 as she got into trouble right off the bat against the Cougars.
   Amanda Cone doubled home Keyta Lawson and Jacquie Rothey to stake Stern and the Cougars to a 2-0 first inning lead that they never relinquished.
   In the nightcap the Cougars broke open a close 4-1 game with eight runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth to close out the 'mercy rule' contest.
   ETSU scored a run in the first and three more in the second as Lindsay Lane drove in a run and Rhea Holler plated two more with a double.
   Danielle Spetar also knocked home a run with a single.
   The teams finish the series with a single game today at 1 p.m.
