Lady Jr. Rangers take pair

   Unaka and Happy Valley squared off in a middle school softball doubleheader at Happy Valley High School Thursday, and the Lady Junior Rangers came out with wins of 14-3 and 12-7.
   The first contest, the 14-3 Unaka win, started at a slow pace, with Logan Wagenseller scoring the lone run in the first inning for the Lady Rangers, then Hannah Banks and Emily Black scored runs for the Lady Junior Warriors.
   The pace of the game picked up for the Lady Rangers during the third inning offensively. Unaka was aggressively running the bases, causing chaos for the Lady Warriors.
   Emily Asher and Tessa Lunceford both went 3 for 3 for the Lady Rangers, with Lunceford connecting for a double.
   Sallee Taylor proved to be too strong for the Lady Warriors, striking out nine batters and only allowing two walks for the game. The only hits for the Lady Warriors came at the first of the game, from Banks and Black.
   The second game of the day started out the with Lady Rangers beating the ball like a drum. The first seven batters hit the ball all over the field, scoring six runs in the first inning.
   The Lady Warriors would not take defeat easy, though.
   Brittney Westberry started the defensive game for the Lady Rangers, striking out three of five batters. However, the Lady Warriors did not allow the Lady Rangers to score in the next two innings.
   Banks and Nicole Hardin played great defense for Happy Valley. The game was neck-and-neck until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Unaka began to get the bats going strong.
   Brittney Westberry and Kayla Winters each connected for a double in the fourth inning. Hannah Banks went 2 for 3 for the Warriors, while Tessa Lunceford, Logan Wagenseller and Emily Asher each went 3 for 3 for Unaka.
   The Lady Rangers are now 8-0.
