Rangers throttle Jr. Bucs

   The big bat of Rusty Chambers helped power Unaka to a 9-5 Watauga Valley Conference victory over University High at Claude Holsclaw Field on Tuesday afternoon.
   Batting 3-for-4, Chambers belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the third, and scored a pair of runs.
   Chris Arnold contributed a 1-for-1, 1-run effort for the Rangers, who improved to 2-0 in conference play and 4-5 overall.
   Unaka got 1-for-3 showings from Thomas Guess (2 runs), Chad Lewis (3 RBIs, 1 run) and Randy Swearingen, while Tee Blevins (2 runs) and Ryan Bowers added a base hit apiece.
   Randy Swearingen (3-0) went the distance for the victory, striking out six and walking four. Swearingen yielded seven hits and four earned runs.
   Leading the way for the Junior Bucs was Daniel Smith with a 2-for-4 showing, including a run and an RBI. Drew Harrell went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Tody Hoyle socked a double.
   Ben Stoots (1 run), Toby Hoyle (1 run), Garrison Burton and Tyler Blevins each had one hit.
   Up 5-2, the Rangers put the game away with a four-run sixth. Lewis tagged a three-run double, and he and Chambers came on on a fielding error.
   UH scored three runs in the seventh, with Hoyle and Harrell banging back-to-back doubles.
   Harrell pitched all seven innings for the Junior Bucs, absorbing the loss. He surrendered seven earned runs and nine hits while walking six and striking out eight.
