Jr. Rangers beaten by Indian Trail

from staff reports

Unaka finished on the short end of a middle school baseball doubleheder on Tuesday, losing by scores of 12-6 and 4-1 to Indian Trail.
In Game 1, the two teams were even at 3-3 heading into the third frame, then Junior Ranger hurler Andrew Church ran into control problems, and some costly errors put Indian Trail up for good.
The Rangers were led by Jeff Wilson's crushing doubles into both gaps, earning him two RBIs. Wilson collected two hits, as did Church. Hunter Taylor, Dustin Carden and Adam Colbaugh contributed one hit each.
A late Unaka rally with runners on second and third was subdued by a game-ending double play.
Game 2 was a lower-scoring affair as Nick Papantoniou dueled with Indian Trail's Horner.
Indian Trail collected six hits in the first two innings, plating its four runs -- three of which were unearned.
The Rangers were only able to manage one run, in the fourth. Papantoniou singled, and Wilson's hit-and-run put runners at first and third.
Wilson stole second before Church collected the lone Unaka RBI as his ground ball to the right side scored Papantoniou.
Horner then struck out three of the last four batters he faced to secure the win.
