Milligan blasts Brevard, 11-1
from staff reports
BREVARD, N.C. -- Scott Shealy continues his record-shattering
season, setting the Milligan College single-season runs scored
record on Saturday in Milligan's 11-1 romp over Brevard.
Milligan (26-26, 13-9 AAC) fell in the nightcap
of the twin-bill 9-5.
The record set by Shealy, had been owned by Tony
Mitchell with 49, which he set in 1978.
The record setting run was tallied off a single
by Ben Whittemore after Shealy had led off with a single.
Milligan starter Matt Simmons (2-4) went five
innings, giving up one hit and one run, before giving way
to relief pitcher Jacob McAllister. Simmons struck out three
and walked just one.
Shealy went two-for-four in the opener and Chris
Archer pitched in with two hits for the Buffaloes.
In game two Brevard struck for four runs in the
last of the third to stake Tornadoes starter Lee Whisenhunt
to a 6-1 lead and knock Milligan starter Chris Gambill out.
Gambill worked just three innings allowing six
runs on just four hits, as the Buffs made three errors behind
him. A three-run blast by Archer in the seventh made it a
four-run game, but that was as close as Milligan could get.
