Lady Buccaneers take one of two
from staff reports
BOONE, N.C. -- Solid pitching was the order of
the day as the Appalachian State Lady Mountaineers and East
Tennessee State Lady Buccaneers split a Saturday twin-bill
by 2-1, and 2-0 tallies.
Tiffany Vandergriff (7-8) got the win in game
one with a complete game two-hitter, as Lindsey Lane (Unicoi
County) helped erase a 1-0 deficit for the Lady Bucs with
a single that plated Miranda Byerly in the fifth.
Byerly had singled to open the frame, and Lane
was plated with a double off the bat of April Arnold (Johnson
County) to give Vandergriff all the run support she would
need.
In game two Lael Rorie (3-12) shut down the Bucs'
bats, twirling a two-hitter at ETSU. Rorie struck out one
and walked one, and was aided by a two-bagger by Kelly Doss
that allowed Rorie and Candace Shelton to score in the opening
frame and give Appy a 2-0 lead.
ETSU now stands 23-29 overall (9-11 SoCon), while
Appy State's record now stands at 10-43 (3-15 SoCon), and
the teams will conclude it's three game set today.
