Milligan College outlasts Mars Hill, 11-10

from staff reports

Travis Mitchum's pinch-hit single in the last of the 11th broke up a 10-10 game and allowed Chuck Arnold to score the winning run in Milligan College's 11-10 victory over Mars Hill on Thursday at Anglin Field.
Mars Hill pitcher Karl Ruff got himself in trouble by walking both Arnold and Scott Shealy before Mitchum's clutch base knock gave the Buffaloes the win.
Milligan tallied four runs in the last of the eighth to overcome a 10-6 deficit and send the game into extra frames. The big blow in the inning was a three-run homer by Jeremy Christian, his fifth round tripper of the season.
The Buffs used five pitchers on the day with Chris Shockley getting the start before being replaced by Rob Maynard after running into trouble in the sixth.
Mars Hill tallied six runs off Shockley and Maynard in the frame to take an 8-6 lead.
Todd Speas (1-2) picked up his first win of the season and also got a save in the contest.
Shealy went two-for-three at the dish with four walks and a run scored, and Shealy could set a new Milligan single-season record for base hits with two more.
Dick Sabin set the mark with 63 in 1980, but Shealy stands just two off that pace.
Dustin Price continued to swing a hot bat going two-for-six, including his fourth home run of the season. Price's two-run shot gave the Buffs a short-lived 4-2 lead in the last of the fourth and Price has driven in eight runs in the last two contests.
Brad Hitch finished with a three-for-six afternoon.
