In a tournament that has been offensive oriented, defense finally took center stage in the semifinals of the Elizabethton STAR Pre-season Little League City Tournament at Jim Ensor Field.
After recording 17 hits in their previous contest, the National League Twins managed only three when it counted the most as Carter County Bank took a 4-3 win on Thursday night at the American League field.
Kenny Yarberry showed up big as the CCB pitcher twirled the three-hit, 14 strikeout performance. In three of the six innings, Yarberry faced the minimum number of batters in the inning.
Derek Mann, Cain McWalters, Tyler Blevins, Isiah Osborne, and Zack Livingston picked up one hit each to provide the offensive firepower that was just enough to care the Bank.
Benjamin McKinney, Phillip White, and Ricky Jones picked up the only hits the Twins recorded on the evening. Twins pitching accounted for a total of 10 strikeouts in the contest.
The CC Bank will next tangle with Valley Forge Auction on Friday evening at Jim Ensor field for the title. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
