Bucs smash Blue Raiders

from staff reports

JOHNSON CITY -- With right-fielder Kirk Keithley's continued hot hitting leading the way, the East Tennessee State Buccaneers ripped the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders 16-3 at Cardinal Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Keithley finished 3-for-5 on the day, including his first home run of the season, and tacked on a pair of doubles as well as driving in four runs in the Bucs romp.
With ETSU trailing 2-1 in the last of the fourth, the Bucs awoke from their slumber by putting up three in the fourth frame, four in the seventh, and six more in the eighth to back the pitching of Jackson Simerly and Jarrod Hyder.
Simerly went seven and two-thirds innings scattering eight hits while striking out five and walking two, before giving way to Hyder in the eighth.
Davis Burkins' long double to centerfield plated both Matt Traylor and Caleb Moore and was the big blow in the Bucs' four-run seventh.
Ryan Hyder's two-run double was the big hit in the Bucs' six-run eighth.
In all ETSU collected 12 hits against five Blue Raider hurlers in improving to 11-19 on the season.
The two teams will square off again today at 3 p.m. at Cardinal Park.
