Vols hammer Bucs

from staff reports

KNOXVILLE -- Walter Sevilla went two-for-three, with a double and triple to back the five-hit pitching of Brian St. Jean as the Tennessee Volunteers knocked off East Tennessee State 6-1 on Wednesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
St. Jean picked up his second win of the season against one loss, pitching seven strong innings, while strking out five and issuing four free passes.
All of St. Jean's walks came in the Buccaneers second frame and gave ETSU it's only run of the contest. St. Jean settled down from there and stopped the Bucs the rest of the way before giving way to Rob Fitzgerald in the eighth.
Tennessee jumped out to a two-run first inning lead against Buccaneer starter Matt Hensley (0-2), who went just three innings and faced just 12 batters.
Science Hill grad Nick Crowe singled and was delivered by Sevilla's double. Sevilla scored on a ground ball out later in the frame.
The Vols increased their lead to 4-1 in the sixth as Sevilla led off with a three-bagger and scored on a sacrifice by Matt Sternberg. Hal Bibbe then doubled and scored on a Chad LeGate single.
Tennessee now stands 15-17 on the season, while the Bucs fell to 7-19.
