Pitchers' duel sees Daniel Boone edge Lady Rangers

from staff reports

Daniel Boone's Sarah White and Unaka's Ryann Musick were clicking on all cylinders Tuesday afternoon at Ronnie Hicks Field.
With both pitchers going the distance and proving nearly unhittable, the Lady Trailblazers were able to sneak away with a 1-0 non-conference win, ending the scoring silence in the seventh frame.
While White racked up eight strikeouts en route to a two-hitter, Musick limited Daniel Boone to four hits and stuck out seven. Musick showed a little better control, issuing one walk to White's five.
The Lady 'Blazers got their run when their ninth batter in the lineup tagged a double, then came home on a single by the following hitter.
After committing eight errors in a loss to Elizabethton on Monday, the Lady Rangers were much-improved defensively, committing just one error.
Unaka (3-3) will host Cloudland in a Watauga Valley Conference encounter this Thursday, then journey to David Crockett on Friday. The Lady Rangers head to the Azalea Invitational in Summerville, S.C., on Sunday, playing two games on Monday and two more Tuesday.
