Snowball Classic: HV finishes third

The Warrior baseball team had 43 tournament hits
with nine home runs to finish third in the Snowball Classic
Saturday. Happy Valley, 6-2 overall, finished with a 3-1 record
for the Classic.
Happy Valley put away Sullivan East 14-2 Friday's
game against Sullivan East. Warrior pitcher Shannon Buchanan
pitched for six innings and Ryan Toney took over the mound
in the sixth inning as Happy Valley held the Patriots to four
hits.
Tim Whaley led the Warriors from the plate, batting
3-for-4 and knocking two home runs. Whaley brought in five
RBIs. Jordy Harrison batted 2-for-4 and also knocked two out
of the park for homers, collecting four RBIs.
The Warriors had a slew of players that dominated
offensively. Toney, who was 3-for-4 from the plate, had two
doubles, an RBI and rounded the bases three times.
Allen Dykes added a home run good for two ribbies
and Ricky Morgan hit two of four, one of which put him on
second base.
Happy Valley scored two runs in the first inning
and held the lead the entire game.
East had one run each in the third and fourth
innings. The Warriors scored two more in the fourth, and went
out with a bang, knocking in five runs in both the fifth and
sixth innings.
Buchanan took the win for Happy Valley while
Justin Mullins carried the loss for Sullivan East.
In Saturday's game with Sullivan South, the Warriors
slipped past with an 8-7 score off of nine hits.
Morgan took the win for the Warriors and Toney
finished the game after taking the mound in the fifth inning.
From the plate, Morgan batted 3-4 and knocked
a home run and two doubles, bringing in five RBIs. Todd Caldwell
batted two of four and scored an RBI.
