Lady Rangers turn back North Greene
from staff reports
BAILEYTON -- Riding a 10-strikeout, no-walk pitching
performance from Danielle Williams and a dozen team hits,
Unaka's Lady Rangers captured an 8-4 victory over North Greene
on Thursday afternoon.
Williams went the distance for the Lady Rangers
in their first Watauga Valley Conference game, holding North
Greene to two earned runs.
Brittany Taylor and Amy Colbaugh both batted
2 for 2 -- Taylor had a double -- for Unaka (1-0, 2-1), which
scored two runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth frames.
Jessica Moffitt had a productive day at the plate
for the Lady Rangers, going 2 for 4 with a double and four
RBIs.
The score could have easily been more lopsided
as Unaka stranded 13 runners.
The Lady Rangers, however, have had just two
practices in which all players were accounted for, and played
in three scrimmages.
"We just don't have any practice time in," said
Unaka coach Ronnie Hicks. "We're going to have to play our
way into shape. The team unity is great, the team attitude
is great and the work ethic is great.
"We're just trying to get to where we want, and
see if we can get the green-ness out and get a rhythm going."
The Lady Rangers host Johnson County at 4:30
p.m. today. The Unaka-Happy Valley game that was postponed
on Monday will be played as part of an April 19 doubleheader
at Hicks Field.
