Lady 'Horns best Falcons

   The Johnson County softball team turned an early lead into a two-point victory over Volunteer as the Lady Longhorns beat the Lady Falcons 6-4 in Mountain City Thursday.
   After a scoreless first inning on both sides, the players swapped runs in the second inning before Johnson County took the 3-1 lead in the third inning. Katie Nelson pitched the entire game for the Lady Longhorns, with Cayla Lewis catching.
   The Lady Longhorns struck hard in the fifth inning, bringing in three runners. Amanda Dowell was Johnson County's leading hitter, batting 3-for-3 and knocking in one RBI.
   Volunteer made a late rally, scoring a run in the sixth, and two in the seventh, but the lead that Johnson County had built didn't crumble. Tiara Trammel took the loss for Volunteer, with Megan Arnold as her catcher. Ashley Dykes hit the game's only homer, and went 3-for-4 from the plate.
