falls to #12 Montreat

The Milligan College baseball team fell to #12
Montreat (N.C.) College in Appalachian Athletic Conference action
by the score of 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Anglin Field. Milligan
moves to 15-11 overall and 7-4 in the AAC while Montreat improves
to 12-1 in the conference and 24-7 overall.
Montreat scored early on the Buffs. In the first
inning, Anthony Poree scored on a single from Daniel Vaughn.
The Cavaliers added two more runs in the second
inning as Mark Hudson scored on Matt McCraw's ground out and
Poree came around to score on Price Stevens' single.
The Cavaliers added two more runs in the fourth
inning on Drew Sandri's single that scored McCraw and Poree.
Milligan cut into the lead in the bottom half of
the fourth inning. Junior third baseman Dustin Price led the
inning off with a single and moved to second and third on two
passed balls. Price scored on an RBI single from junior second
baseman Nathan Meade.
Montreat pushed another run across in the fifth
inning as Willie Jones scored on a double steal of home while
Hudson ended up on second base.
The Buffaloes clawed back in the sixth inning.
Price reached first with a one out single followed by a walk
to Meade. Freshman catcher Thomas Lister brought both Price
and Meade home to score with his double.
A passed ball allows the runner for Lister, Cody
Whitlock to move to third base and scored on a ground ball to
first base by freshman Kory Kinnear.
In the ninth inning, Montreat added two insurance
runs as Stephens and Vaughn both scored on a passed ball.
For Milligan on the mound, junior Adam Taylor picked
up the loss going two innings giving up three runs on five hits.
Brandon Vaughn earns the win for Montreat as he pitched nine
innings allowing four runs, three earned runs on five hits.
At the plate for the Buffaloes, Dustin Price went
2-for-4 with two runs scored. Nathan Meade and Thomas Lister
each went 1-for-4 with one run scored, Lister also added two
RBIs.
Next for Milligan will be a trip to play NCAA Division
II Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) College Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
